Introducing... StringTime Winter Camp!

Updated: Dec 5, 2022

"I can't say enough about how excellent this camp was. My son absolutely loved it, and he learned so much! Lourdes and her instructors are wonderful people, are very professional and incredible musicians. We look forward to putting him in the camp next year, and hope they offer a winter session." -Alexandra Nolan, Parent

You asked, and we listened! Those of us at StringTime are thrilled to introduce to you our very first season of StringTime Winter Camp, where your student will experience all the fun of summer camp, but in the winter!

After a successful and enriching Summer Camp 2022, we’ve decided to expand our program. Winter Camp will be open to new students and StringTime alumni alike, and will expound upon the fundamental instrumental skills that your child already possesses.

Winter Camp will be hosted from December 27-30th, and will culminate in a final festive concert at Church of the Good Shepherd in Burke, VA. Both students and faculty members will perform recognizable holiday classics as well as staple musical literature, curated to fit the mood of the season.

StringTime alumni will be happy to hear that we will once again be offering individualized instruction, large ensemble classes, faculty demonstrations, music theory and music history lessons, and game time as part of our curriculum. But what will be different?

Music History:

  • Our music history class will this season feature lessons on selections from Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker” Ballet, an incredibly important piece of music that is without a doubt one of society’s most beloved holiday traditions. Students will have the chance to study the life of Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, what inspired him to write one of his most famous works, and how he intertwined the disciplines of dance and music in order to create a cohesive narrative.

Music Theory:

  • Music theory classes will be taught at a more advanced level in order to cater to students who have continued in their musical studies following the summertime session of StringTime. We will assign activities that incorporate holiday themes, encourage students to continue in their own compositions, and have them help us arrange their own harmonies to classic carols.

Prior Experience Required:

Unlike Summer Camp, all students attending Winter Camp must have previous experience with the violin or the cello. This experience must include one or more of the following:

  • Approximately one semester (about 3 months) of private lessons, or

  • Approximately one year of school orchestra, or

  • One prior session of StringTime experience

These prerequisite requirements will allow us to offer your child a StringTime experience that is more than just one session long. We want to be a part of your student’s continuing musical education, which we understand is an important and lifelong journey.

Give the priceless gift of music to your child this holiday season, and register them for Winter Camp 2022. We can’t wait to see you there!

With joy,

Emera Gurath & the StringTime family
